Focus Aesthetics is inside both clinics

What we treat

Start with what is bothering you

Most people arrive knowing the problem, not the machine. Find your concern below and we will show you what actually helps — and recommend only the treatments and products that will make a real difference for you.

How to use this

The eye and the skin around it, in one place.

Because Focus Aesthetics sits inside two optometry practices, a clinical concern and a cosmetic one can be handled under one roof — often in the same visit. Dry eye and crow’s feet are treated on the same InMode platform, in the same room.

Not always by the same person, though. Our optometrists perform the Plexr Plus treatments; our ocular hygienists and medical aesthetician run the dry eye program and the skin treatments. Whichever brings you in, the assessment behind it is an eye clinic’s.

Everything below links through to the treatment that addresses it. If more than one applies to you, say so at the consultation — treatments are very often combined, and the order they are done in matters.

Eyes and eyelids

The side of our practice that sets us apart. Every one of these starts with an optometrist’s assessment, whether or not an optometrist performs the treatment itself.

Dry, gritty or burning eyes

Most dry eye is evaporative — the oil glands in your lids have stopped releasing properly, so your tears evaporate before they can do their job. Drops soothe the symptom; light and heat treat the cause.

Treatments that help

At home A month of the CORE 4 — warm compress, preservative-free drops, lid hygiene wipes and Omega-3 — is included in the full treatment plan.

Styes and chalazia

A blocked gland that has become swollen or infected. As a rule of thumb we reach for IPL with styes and Forma I with chalazia, though it is not a hard line and plenty of cases need both.

Treatments that help

Red, crusted or irritated eyelids

Blepharitis — inflammation along the lid margin, often with debris at the lash line. Uncomfortable, and a common reason eye makeup stops sitting well.

Treatments that help

Heavy or hooded eyelids

Excess skin on the upper lid that softens your eye shape, and in some cases starts to sit in your field of view. Plexr Plus tightens the skin; Morpheus8 works on what sits beneath it. Sometimes both are needed, in that order.

Treatments that help

Crow’s feet and the eye area

The skin around the eye is the thinnest on the body, which is why it creases first. It is also the area we are most careful with.

Treatments that help

At home A retinol built for the eye area, introduced slowly.

Skin

Tone, texture and firmness, treated with the same equipment and the same care.

Sun damage and brown spots

Years of Alberta sun surfacing as freckling and flat brown patches, usually across the cheeks, hands and décolleté. This is what IPL was built for — but pigment will return without proper ongoing protection.

Treatments that help

At home Sunscreen alone is not enough. Antioxidants underneath it, a hat and shade habits, and staying out of the tanning bed all matter as much as the SPF.

Facial redness and rosacea

Persistent flushing across the cheeks and nose that makeup covers but never fixes. IPL targets the vessels driving it.

Treatments that help

At home Gentle, fragrance-free barrier repair. Harsh actives make rosacea worse.

Broken capillaries and visible vessels

Fine red threads around the nose and cheeks respond quickly to light. Larger vessels and varicose veins are a different problem and not something we treat — those need a vascular specialist.

Treatments that help

Loss of firmness along the jawline and neck

Skin that has begun to soften rather than wrinkle. Forma lifts gently with no downtime; Morpheus8 remodels deeper where more change is wanted.

Treatments that help

Fine lines and wrinkles

Laugh lines, nasolabial folds and the barcode lines above the lip. Fine lines respond well to Forma; deeper, set wrinkles need Morpheus8 or Plexr Plus. Usually a course rather than a single appointment.

Treatments that help

At home Retinol, introduced at a strength your skin can tolerate comfortably.

Uneven texture and dullness

Skin that looks tired and no longer reflects light evenly. Resurfacing speeds up cell turnover so the fresher layer underneath comes through.

Treatments that help

Chemical Peels & Facials Lumecca IPL Microdermabrasion Carboxy gel mask

At home An antioxidant serum, and an exfoliant used sparingly rather than daily.

Post-acne marks and uneven pigment

The brown or red marks left behind after a breakout has healed. They fade on their own eventually — resurfacing makes it considerably faster.

Treatments that help

At home Vitamin C, and SPF every single day. Sun undoes this work fastest.

Congestion and blocked pores

Blackheads and the rough, bumpy texture that comes with them, most often across the nose, chin and forehead.

Treatments that help

Chemical Peels & Facials Deep cleansing facial Refresh Cleanse

At home A salicylic cleanser, and a moisturizer that will not add to the problem.

Skin tags and benign lesions

Raised skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses and similar benign marks. Plexr Plus removes them point by point, with no cutting.

Treatments that help

Hair

Permanent reduction, anywhere there is unwanted hair from head to toe.

Unwanted hair

Anywhere there is unwanted hair, from head to toe. DiolazeXL has a large treatment window and a chilled sapphire tip, so bigger areas are genuinely quick.

Not sure which of these fits? That is what a consultation is for — and we will tell you plainly if a treatment will not give you what you are hoping for.
